XOSIZE Race 3 - Enduro (2x250m / 2 x 10km / 2x2.5km) - Elwood - 22 January 2012
Windy morning on the peninsula but not a breath up at Elwood so all set for a fast day’s racing of the popular but ‘quirky’ Enduro format.
Mitch Kibby who took out the race made the comment that he felt he spent most of the race in transition!
I took Clinton’s advice and skipped the wetsuit on the assumption that I would spend as much time getting it off as I would lose in the swim itself – a zero sum game. This turned out to be ‘sage’ advice.
The sand was soft but the water was flat and unlike Supersprint the race start was up the beach.
Clinton and his crew were there and Nicki Davies, Steve Kingwell, Todd Buschkeuhl, John Goode, Noel Middlecoat, Mark Howarth, John Barker
Being a nice sunny morning the Elwood footpath was covered in pedestrians so the run became a duck and weave affair much like riding in heavy traffic.
Lots of podiums for club members and a great race with the schools running a transition competition. This was entertaining and reminded me how bloody slow I am in the transitions.
See you next race!

XOSIZE Race 2 - Mordialloc - 04 December 2011
A very choppy swell and blustery wind conditions met all competitors at todays race 2 of the XOSize series at Mordialloc. Members Gary Swanton, Mandy Craig, Matt Tebble, Todd Buschkuehl, and Nicki Davies all raced in the Sprint with new member Michael Fermanian doing his 2nd mini distance. With a very strong current pushing all swimmers away from the swim buoys, some tactical decisions were need to be made, basically start as left as you could and continous sighting was the key to not missing the course. The swell and chop was significant with that feeling of taking a swim stroke but the water falls away below your arm and there is nothing there.
Out of T1 and all riders enjoyed a tailwind on the outward lap but one heck of a headwind coming back into Mordi. The riders were also confronted with a pretty strong cross-wind whenever the riders rode past an exposed area of Beach Road. The weather started to close in as the riders got closer to T2, but it somehow managed to stay away.
Off the bike and out of T2, the Sprint racers had a 5km run to go to call it an end to the day. Once again, a nice strong tail wind met the runners outbound but it was head down and bum up for the return leg back to Peter Scullin Reserve. Congratulations to Nicki Davies who once again finished on the Podium with a 3rd in her category, well done Nicki.
Well done to all competitors in what was quite a testing day. Next XOSize Race is Jan 22 @ Elwood.

XOSIZE Race 1 - Brighton - 06 November 2011
The 2011/2012 Triathlon season got underway at Brighton today with race 1 of the 5 race XOSIZE Series being held at Greens Point, Brighton. It was a flat sea, warm(ish) kind of day that met club members. The club tent was present and was used by the small number of club members that decided to have a hit out on the day.
Greg Jones, Gary Swanton, Matt Tebble and Nicki Davies took on the Sprint race, (500/20km/5km) with new member Michael Fermanian racing in the Mini (200/10km/2km). Well done to Nicki on her podium finish too, great way to start out the new season.
The weather was quickly approaching 30c early in the morning and all competitors were very glad of the 7am/ 730am starts as the hot northerly winds started to blow in and the bay started to become choppy.
Clinton Watson was all there with his Trispecify tribe of kids and his group of first time Tri ladies - every body had a ball with a couple of the first time ladies actuating placing in their categories.
All are now primed for either XOSize Race 2 on Dec 4 or the first Gatorade of the season on 20th November - entries are still available on their respective websites or on the day.
Good luck to all club members racing at 70.3 Shepparton on Sunday 13th November too.
