WOW - IRONMAN IS BACK IN FRANKSTON !

Locals will be able to experience first hand the world renowned Ironman Asia-Pacific Championship on 25 March next year when the 3.8km swim takes place in Frankston's foreshore, the 180km bike leg winds its way through Frankston City's streets heading to EastLink, and the 42.2km run begins here before the triathletes reach the finish line in St Kilda.

It's the first event of this magnitude to come to our shores and Frankston City Council looks forward to welcoming our visitors and working with the local community to showcase the best we have to offer as the world watches on.

It is a great coup to be a part of hosting this international event in Frankston.

The event organisers made the right choice choosing Frankston foreshore for the swim leg, particularly in light of our recent designation as Victoria's 'cleanest' and 'friendliest' beach (Keep Australia Beautiful Victoria Awards 2011).

Our beach will be a superb backdrop for the Ironman Asia-Pacific Championship. It is great to see Frankston's potential once again recognised and we intend to host a premier event that will showcase the best of Frankston on an international stage.

Frankston City is experienced in hosting major events including Sandsculpting Australia's annual exhibition (98,000 visitors in 2011), Christmas Festival of Lights (15,000 visitors in 2010), Waterfront Festival (25,000 visitors in 2011), Pets' Day out (10,000 visitors in 2010), Ventana Latin Fiesta (6,000 visitors in 2011) and the BMX State Titles (5,000 visitors in 2010).

Frankston City's Visitor Information Centre (VIC) at Frankston waterfront is available to take enquiries and assist people with accommodation and local attraction bookings. Around 85,000 visitors attend the VIC each year.

For more information and accommodation bookings please contact the Visitor Information Centre on 1300 322 842 or go to
www.visitfrankston.com.

We look forward to welcoming you to Frankston City as you join with us to enjoy this great international event.
